Iloilo City Opens Cooling Hubs to Combat Extreme Heat in 2026

Iloilo City has opened two cooling hubs to help residents escape extreme heat. The facilities, launched on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, provide safe spaces for people to cool down during the hottest parts of the day. Each hub can hold up to 20 individuals at once.

The hubs are located along Diversion Road in Mandurriao and near Jalandoni Bridge in City Proper. Both operate daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., covering the peak heat hours when temperatures soar.

The structures were built using refurbished office materials and eco boards made from recycled plastic waste. This approach aligns with the city’s push for sustainability while addressing public health concerns. On-site personnel from the City Health Office monitor visitors’ conditions to ensure their safety. Residents have been encouraged to use these hubs, particularly when heat levels become dangerous.

The cooling hubs form part of Iloilo City’s broader effort to protect public health and improve climate resilience. By offering relief from extreme temperatures, the initiative aims to reduce heat-related illnesses. The facilities will remain open daily for those seeking shelter from the heat.
