Bhopal's Shri Ram Sangrahalaya to Bring Ramayana's Legacy to Life
A new museum dedicated to Lord Ram will soon rise in Bhopal’s Shyamala Hills. Named Shri Ram Sangrahalaya, the project has submitted its detailed plan to the state culture department. Construction will begin once officials grant approval for the Rs 15 crore development. The museum will occupy 15,000 sq ft within the Manas Bhavan premises. Its three-storey design will mirror the facade of Orchha’s Sri Ramraja Temple. Builders plan to use stones sourced from the Orchha region for authenticity.
The ground floor will feature a detailed model of Lord Ram’s 14-year exile. Key events and locations from this period will be recreated for visitors. Above it, a mukhauta gallery will display masks used by actors in Ramlila performances across India.
An audio gallery will play recordings of Ramayana-related songs, bhajans, and recitals from different states. Nearby, a video gallery will screen Ramlila performances staged in India and abroad. The museum will also include a 50-seater mini theatre for presentations and cultural events. The project awaits final clearance from the state culture department. Once completed, the museum will offer visitors a mix of visual, audio, and theatrical experiences centred on Lord Ram’s life. The Rs 15 crore facility aims to preserve and showcase traditions linked to the Ramayana.
