A Mumbai Apartment's Stunning Transformation Into a Multigenerational Haven

A four-bedroom apartment in Mulund, Mumbai, has been transformed into a bespoke three-bedroom residence. The redesign, led by Studio KE Architects, now features an open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area. The homeowners sought a space that blends contemporary living with traditional Indian craftsmanship.

The project began nearly three years ago, with the family entrusting all design choices to Studio KE Architects. Their vision was clear: a multigenerational home that feels deeply personal while staying modern. Every surface was carefully considered to add texture and narrative to the 2,130 sq ft space.

One of the most striking changes was the creation of an expansive master suite. Two rooms were combined into a single connected area, complete with a hidden media room. This suite sits alongside a parents' bedroom and a guest room, each with its own attached washroom. The redesign also opened up the living spaces. Walls were removed to form a seamless flow between the living, dining, and kitchen zones. The result is a home that balances openness with intimate, functional areas.

The transformation took nearly three years, allowing ideas to develop and craftsmanship to take centre stage. The final residence reflects the family’s desire for a contemporary yet culturally rooted living space. Each detail—from the open-plan layout to the textured surfaces—contributes to a home that is both personal and purposeful.
