Ukrainian Artists in Germany Showcase Resilience Through New Exhibition

A new art exhibition in Neuwied is bringing together contemporary Ukrainian artists now living in Germany. Titled Circle of Solidarity, the show highlights creativity, resilience, and cultural exchange within the local community. The exhibition features 13 Ukrainian artists whose lives were upended by Russia’s war. Many fled to Germany, where they continue to create despite displacement. Their works span diverse styles and themes, from abstract pieces to traditional Ukrainian folk art.

Among the displayed art is a collection by Marsia, a Kyiv-based painter known for the vibrant Petrykivka style. This decorative technique, with its floral motifs and bold colours, reflects a deep connection to Ukrainian heritage. Organised by the Ukrainian-German association KOLO and Neuwied’s adult education centre (vhs), the event aims to build bridges between cultures. Neuwied’s Mayor Peter Jung attended the opening and commended the city’s Ukrainian residents for enriching local life. He expressed hope that Neuwied has become a welcoming home for them. The exhibition runs until May 31 at vhs Neuwied, Heddesdorfer Straße 33. Visitors can explore the works free of charge, Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Through art, the exhibition fosters dialogue and strengthens community ties in Neuwied. The featured artists, united by their creativity and perseverance, offer a glimpse into Ukrainian culture while forging new connections in Germany.
