Boston's New Dance Company Blends Ballet and Contemporary in Forward
A new dance company is making its mark in Boston this spring. Lam Dance Works, founded by former Boston Ballet principal John Lam, will present Forward at the Paramount Center on May 15th and 16th. The production blends ballet, contemporary, and classical styles in a programme of six works—three world premieres and three Boston debuts. John Lam spent 20 years with Boston Ballet before becoming an associate professor at Boston Conservatory. His non-profit company, launched recently, aims to connect conservatory training with professional experience. The debut performance took place last November, with Demetris Michaelides—a third-year Boston Conservatory student—serving as rehearsal director for Forward.
*Forward* showcases a rotating cast of dancers and choreographers, reflecting the company’s flexible approach. Lam is also collaborating with Boston Public Schools to teach students about live performance. The May programme features a mix of styles, from classical ballet to contemporary works, highlighting the company’s versatility. Michaelides, who joined Lam Dance Works as a student, represents the bridge between education and professional dance that Lam seeks to strengthen. The production marks another step in the company’s mission to nurture emerging talent while delivering bold performances.
Tickets for Forward are now available for the two-night run at the Paramount Center. The show brings together new choreography, student performers, and Lam’s decades of experience. Audiences will see a mix of established and fresh voices in Boston’s dance scene.
