Wolfenbüttel's Holiday Program Marks 50 Years of Childhood Adventures

Wolfenbüttel’s youth services are celebrating 50 years of holiday programs for children. What started in 1974 as a simple loose-leaf listing has grown into a well-loved tradition. This year’s anniversary edition will feature activities from local groups like the THW and the AHA Experience Museum. The holiday program first launched in 1974 with basic printed sheets. By the 1980s, it became the Ferien(s)pass, a stapled A6 booklet put together by hand. Every edition since then has been archived in the Lower Saxony State Archives.

In 2018, online booking was added alongside the printed *Ferienkalender*. Two years later, the pandemic forced a full shift to digital. Now, families can register online at <http://www.freizeitspektakel.de> starting at Pentecost. This year’s lineup includes events from the Riddagshausen Forest Forum, Hall of Paddle sports centre, and more. The team behind the program still enjoys seeing children’s excitement and shared experiences.

The holiday program has changed from paper lists to digital registrations over five decades. Organisers plan to keep offering adventures for children in the years ahead. The 2024 edition marks half a century of fun and learning for young participants.
