Orchard Beach Pavilion reopens after $114M revival in the Bronx
The Orchard Beach Pavilion in the Bronx has reopened after a 17-year closure. A $114 million renovation has restored the historic site, bringing back New York City’s only public beach in the borough. The pavilion first shut its doors in 2009 but now welcomes visitors once again. Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani officially unveiled the restored building earlier this week. The project focused on reviving its original 1930s Art Deco style while upgrading facilities to modern standards.
Key improvements include restored limestone cladding, polished terrazzo floors, and striking blue tiles. A new ramp ensures accessibility from the landward entrance down to the sand. Around the pavilion, fresh landscaping and newly planted trees have enhanced the green spaces. The food service areas have been completely reimagined. Unwind Hospitality Group will manage the dining spaces, partnering with local Bronx vendors to highlight fresh, regional flavours. Plans are also underway for a more refined restaurant, set to open in 2027.
The Bronx Riviera now offers improved access, updated amenities, and a renewed focus on local cuisine. After years of closure, the pavilion stands as a revitalised landmark for both residents and visitors. The project marks a significant investment in the borough’s public spaces.
