Giant Hydroelectric Mural Transforms Nizhny Novgorod's Historic Waterfront
A large mural depicting the Nizhny Novgorod Hydroelectric Station now stands near Bugrov Business Park in Nizhny Novgorod. The artwork, created at a towering five-storey height, was commissioned by HydroRemont-Volga Hydroelectric Cascade JSC and has quickly become an iconic symbol of RusHydro. The mural is located along the Lower Volga Embankment, a site with deep historical roots. Originally, the area housed a flax-spinning mill built in the late 19th century by merchant Nikolai Bugrov and the Bashkirov brothers. Over time, the building took on different roles, serving as a hospital and later as a military production facility.
Today, the space is occupied by Bugrov Business Park, one of Nizhny Novgorod’s largest business hubs. Artists used spray guns to paint the expansive mural, which was first reported by local news outlet Pravda-NN. The project highlights the region’s industrial heritage while celebrating its modern energy infrastructure.
The new installation adds a striking visual element to the city’s waterfront. Its placement near a historic business hub ties together Nizhny Novgorod’s past and present. The mural’s scale and design ensure it will remain a prominent landmark for both residents and visitors.
