Learn Scythe Mowing at This Eco-Friendly Workshop in Untermaßfeld

A scythe-mowing workshop will take place in Untermaßfeld on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Organised by the Bund für Umwelt- und Naturschutz Deutschland (BUND), the event teaches participants how to use a scythe instead of noisy lawnmowers. The initiative aims to cut down on weekend pollution in rural areas. The workshop runs from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Am Schindgraben community garden. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own scythes, though a few practice tools will be available. Spaces are limited, and registration is required.

Scythes offer a quieter, greener alternative to motorised trimmers. They produce no emissions, reduce noise, and provide a physical workout for users. BUND, a leading German environmental group, is running the session through its local Schmalkalden-Meiningen branch.

The event targets villagers looking for eco-friendly lawn care. Participants will learn hands-on scythe techniques while helping lower weekend noise and air pollution. Those interested must sign up in advance to secure a spot.
