JENKI's Matcha Bar Reopens at Selfridges with a Transparent Twist
JENKI, London’s leading matcha brand, has relaunched its matcha bar at Selfridges London. The redesigned space opened on April 29, 2023, offering a fresh take on the brand’s identity. This time, the focus is on transparency and craftsmanship. The new bar sits between The Foodhall and Beauty Hall on the ground floor. Designed by London-based designer Rain Wu, it features a structure wrapped in JENKI’s signature green. The frame is made from stained Douglas fir plywood, giving the space a warm yet modern feel.
The counter’s terrazzo-like surface is crafted from recycled plastic composite. This choice aligns with JENKI’s commitment to circular design principles. Unlike the previous setup, matcha preparation now takes place at the front of the bar, fully visible to customers.
Co-founder Claudia Boyer explained that the redesign aims to highlight the matcha-making process. The goal is to create an experience that values craft over spectacle. Selfridges has played a key role in JENKI’s growth, helping the brand reach a broader audience. The relaunched bar reflects a more permanent and thoughtful expression of JENKI’s identity. By making preparation visible, the brand reinforces its focus on quality and transparency. The space now offers customers a clearer, more intentional matcha experience.
