Gulmohar Lane's Mumbai flagship redefines luxury with heritage-inspired design
Gulmohar Lane has opened its flagship store in Mumbai’s historic Kamala Mills. The 4,500 sq ft space blends luxury furniture with fully furnished residential settings. Designed by Principal Architect Meenakshi Jessani, it merges craftsmanship with modern living while honouring the site’s industrial past.
The store’s design draws inspiration from Mumbai’s textile mill era, a period that shaped the city’s identity. Decades later, these industrial structures now host contemporary spaces like Gulmohar Lane. The architectural approach preserves the raw character of Kamala Mills while introducing refined interiors.
Inside, the layout unfolds as a series of intimate vignettes—living rooms, bedrooms, and transitional areas. Each space features a muted colour palette, rich textures, and handcrafted finishes, reflecting the brand’s ‘Made in India’ luxury ethos. Skylights and an open floor plan flood the interiors with natural light, enhancing comfort and liveability. Sustainability lies at the core of the design. Ethically sourced materials, modular layouts, and minimal waste align with the brand’s eco-conscious values. Heritage elements like rattan backdrops and Jaipur-sourced cement tiles add authenticity, bridging tradition with contemporary aesthetics.
The store reimagines industrial heritage through thoughtful design and responsible practices. Visitors experience furniture within lifelike residential settings, showcasing Gulmohar Lane’s commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability. The result is a space that feels both timeless and distinctly modern.
