Powderhorn's Historic West End Chairlift Heads to Auction After 54 Years

Powderhorn Mountain Resort is preparing to say goodbye to its oldest ski lift. Starting Monday, parts of the historic West End Chairlift will go up for auction after 54 years of service. The West End Chairlift, a Heron-Poma double chair, first opened in 1970. It remained in use until this spring, making it the resort’s longest-running lift. Now, the resort has decided to retire it for good.

A new high-speed express quad will take its place. The upgrade aims to improve capacity and reduce wait times for skiers. Fans of the old lift, however, will have a chance to own a piece of its history through the upcoming auction.

The auction begins on Monday, offering memorabilia from the resort’s longest-serving lift. Once removed, the new quad chair will become the primary transport for skiers in that area. The change marks the end of an era for Powderhorn’s original infrastructure.
