Gifhorn Honors Local Athletes with Sponsored Trees Along Brandweg
Gifhorn has recognised the achievements of eight local athletes with a unique tribute. Each has been honoured with a sponsored tree, planted along Brandweg in the town. The initiative celebrates their dedication while leaving a lasting mark on the community. The athletes receiving tree sponsorships are Angelina Baron, Anja Carmosin-Kluge, Rosi Feierabend, Mona Komnick, Junia Martel, Werner Metz, Phil Mittelstädt, and Marla Wohltmann. Their accomplishments have highlighted Gifhorn’s strong sports culture, earning them this special recognition.
Each tree—either an apple or pear variety—has been planted in their name. Alongside the trees, plaques will display the athlete’s name alongside the words *‘Sporting Honors’*. Mayor Matthias Nerlich described the trees as a permanent symbol of the athletes’ hard work and success. Beyond honouring the individuals, the project aims to inspire younger athletes. The planted trees also represent a forward-looking gesture, connecting sporting achievement with the town’s future.
The new trees along Brandweg will stand as a visible reminder of the athletes’ contributions. Their names and achievements will remain part of Gifhorn’s landscape for years to come. The initiative reinforces the town’s commitment to celebrating both sporting excellence and community spirit.
