Braunschweig's New Pavilion Opens as a Hub for Culture and Community

A new temporary pavilion is taking shape on Braunschweig’s Burgplatz. Designed to host cultural events and public discussions, it will open its doors on Wednesday, May 20, at midday. The project aims to breathe fresh life into the city centre through community-driven activities. The pavilion’s design emerged from a citywide competition held in late 2023. Organised by the City of Braunschweig and TU Braunschweig, the winning concept came from architects Marc-André Tiede and Marcus Aurelius Jensen of JUHU! Architektur. Their proposal stood out for its focus on flexibility and public engagement.

Construction has now begun, with the structure set to become a hub for architectural dialogue and cultural gatherings. Funding for the project comes from the *Resilient City Centers* programme, which supports initiatives that transform urban spaces. On opening day, the first event—a DJ workshop run in partnership with KuK e.V.—will kick off at 4 p.m. The pavilion’s programme will continue to evolve, offering a mix of activities designed to bring people together.

The pavilion will operate as a temporary space for art, discussion, and community interaction. Its launch marks a step in Braunschweig’s efforts to create more vibrant, adaptable public areas. Organisers plan to use the venue for a wide range of events in the coming months.
