Beloved 90-Year-Old Janitor Celebrates 50 Years at High School with Heartfelt Tribute
A 90-year-old janitor at Tantasqua Regional High School has been celebrated for his half-century of service. Bobby Collins, who has cleaned the school’s auditorium for 50 years, received a surprise birthday tribute from students and staff alike. The entire school gathered to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Collins on his special day. Students also presented him with custom T-shirts bearing his name and a heartfelt tribute video. Gifts and a formal citation were given in recognition of his long-standing dedication.
Collins, a Navy veteran, showed no signs of slowing down. When asked about retirement, he replied with a smile, ‘To rest is to rust.’ His commitment to the school has made him a beloved figure—many students see him as a father or grandfather. Principal Peter Dufresne publicly thanked Collins for his decades of hard work. The janitor, in turn, expressed gratitude to his wife of over 50 years, calling her his greatest supporter.
The event highlighted Collins’ deep connection to the school community. His 50 years of service, combined with his military background and unwavering work ethic, have left a lasting impact. The school plans to continue honouring his contributions in the years ahead.
