Reopened Support Center Unveils Modern, Accessible Learning Spaces After €2.5M Renovation
The Christian-Ludwig-Wucke State Regional Support Center has officially reopened after a major two-year renovation. The updated building now offers modern learning spaces, improved accessibility, and better energy efficiency. Around 100 students will benefit from the upgrades, which were completed in May 2026. Work on the school began in April 2024 as part of the Energy-Efficient Renovation and Accessibility Upgrade project. The Wartburg district invested roughly €2.5 million, using grants and its own funds to finance the changes. Key improvements included thermal insulation, a new district heating station, and optimised heat distribution. Electrical systems were modernised, energy-efficient lighting installed, and piping, ceilings, floors, and walls upgraded.
A new elevator now connects all floors, ensuring full accessibility. The school also gained an accessible restroom, a dedicated care room, and visual aids for better navigation. The former serving kitchen was repurposed into a flexible multi-use space, adding to the centre’s functionality. The project aimed to cut long-term energy use and reduce operating costs. At the same time, it created contemporary learning and recreational areas tailored to the needs of students and staff. Officials handed over the completed building on May 12, 2026.
The renovation provides the support centre with modern, accessible, and reliable facilities. Energy-efficient systems and improved infrastructure will help lower costs while supporting the school’s educational mission. The updates ensure the centre can continue its work under better conditions for years to come.
