Germany's horticulture boom hits €11.11B as green jobs and innovation flourish

The German horticulture and landscape sector has seen steady growth in 2025, with revenue climbing to €11.11 billion. Employment figures also rose, reaching over 131,700 workers, including around 8,100 apprentices. The industry continues to expand while showcasing innovation through key events and competitions.

The German Association of Garden, Landscape, and Sports Facility Construction (BGL) reported a 4.3% nominal revenue increase for 2025. This growth reflects rising demand for sustainable outdoor spaces and professional landscaping services.

Among the sector’s highlights is the **Landscape Gardener Cup**, a two-day nationwide competition for emerging talent. Participants face challenges testing their craftsmanship, creativity, and teamwork. The event aims to recognise and promote the next generation of horticulture professionals. Another key feature is the **Green-Blue Path**, an exhibition space dedicated to sustainable innovations in horticulture and landscape construction. Entry requires a competitive application, with submissions evaluated by a jury. The showcase highlights cutting-edge solutions for eco-friendly urban development. The BGL also introduced the **‘Future of Green Living Spaces’ pavilion**, serving as a central hub for expert lectures and public award ceremonies. The pavilion presents best-practice examples designed to improve urban living and environmental quality. Additionally, the **E-Mobility Area** demonstrates electric drive technologies in action. Visitors can see construction, maintenance, and municipal vehicles operating with zero emissions, reinforcing the industry’s commitment to sustainability.

The sector’s growth in revenue and employment underscores its expanding role in sustainable development. Events like the Landscape Gardener Cup and the Green-Blue Path provide platforms for innovation and skill development. These initiatives help shape the future of green spaces and urban environments across Germany.
