Sochi's Art Deco Gem Reopens After Decades of Neglect and Restoration

The Nikolay Ostrovsky House-Museum in Sochi has reopened after a full renovation. Built in 1936, the Art Deco landmark is a protected cultural heritage site. The project included modern upgrades while preserving key historic features. The building’s last major renovation took place in 1980. This time, workers reinforced the foundation and replaced outdated utilities. The heating, ventilation, and electrical systems were all updated to modern standards.

Original elements, such as the doors, windows, and parquet flooring, were carefully restored. The museum’s Art Deco design, dating back to its 1936 construction, remains intact.

A reopening ceremony marked the completion of the work. Among the attendees were Albina Ostrovskaya, the writer’s niece, and Zoya Ostrovskaya, his grandniece. The restored museum now combines historic charm with improved infrastructure. Visitors can explore the site with updated amenities while experiencing its original architectural details. The renovation ensures the building’s preservation for future generations.
