Leonardo launches new UK helicopter support hub in Elstree

Leonardo has opened a new helicopter support facility in Elstree, Hertfordshire. The site marks the company’s tenth operational location in the UK and follows a multi-million-pound investment. It will serve as a key hub for maintenance, logistics, and technical support for civil helicopters across the UK and Ireland. The Elstree facility will operate under Leonardo Belgium, blending continental logistics expertise with British engineering skills. Its main role is to provide faster, manufacturer-approved support for the company’s commercial helicopter fleet. Around 30 of these aircraft currently perform critical roles in the UK, including air ambulance and emergency medical services.

The new hub aims to improve customer access to direct support while strengthening operational resilience. Leonardo also plans to expand its workforce in Hertfordshire, creating highly skilled engineering jobs over the coming years.

This development follows Leonardo’s recent £1 billion contract for the UK’s New Medium Helicopter (NMH) programme. Additionally, the company will work with the University of Hertfordshire to train early-career engineers and technicians. The Elstree site reinforces Leonardo’s presence in the UK, combining investment in high-value engineering with closer customer support. The facility will enhance maintenance services for civil helicopters while fostering local job growth and industry collaboration.
