Two city playgrounds reopen with modern designs after community-led renovations
Two playgrounds in the city have reopened after major renovations, with a third still under construction. The updated spaces at Kolberger Weg and Allensteiner Straße now feature modern equipment and a fresh design. The project follows months of planning with input from local families.
The renovation process involved parents and children in shaping the new playgrounds. Their feedback led to a mix of classic and innovative play elements. A key addition is a large climbing structure built to boost motor skills and physical activity.
For younger visitors, a dedicated sand area includes a fire truck theme, a xylophone, and a maze game board. The design also kept natural features at Allensteiner Straße, such as hills and shrubs, while adding more play options. The playgrounds now share a consistent look, using the city’s 'Rheinberger palette' of sky blue and spring green. This colour scheme ties the spaces into the broader urban plan. Additional seating areas were installed to address residents’ requests for better places to gather and relax. Construction at Memeler Ring remains ongoing. The total cost for all upgrades is around €110,000.
The updated playgrounds aim to improve local neighbourhoods by offering varied play opportunities and social spaces. Families now have new areas for children to explore and for communities to connect. The project reflects the city’s effort to enhance public spaces through collaboration with residents.
