Fürth's Broadcasting Museum Reopens in 2027 with a Bold New Vision
Fürth’s Broadcasting Museum is getting a major upgrade and a new name. The renovation project, which began in late 2024, will transform the building with a modern design and expanded focus. When it reopens in September 2027, it will be called the New Broadcasting Museum Fürth – House of Listening. The renovation includes a sleek, curved extension and a fully accessible entrance. Munich-based architecture firm DBCO is overseeing the building plans, ensuring the structure meets contemporary standards.
Inside, the permanent exhibition will be completely revamped. The museum’s scope will broaden to cover not just broadcasting history but also the wider world of sound and hearing. The renaming has been met with approval from key figures. Museum director Karin Heinzler called it a strategic step forward. Martin Schramm, head of Fürth’s municipal museums, supported the early decision on the name, while cultural affairs officer Benedikt Döhl expressed satisfaction with the choice. Local residents also played a role, submitting numerous suggestions for the new name. The project has clearly struck a chord with the community, reflecting its cultural significance.
The museum will welcome visitors again in September 2027 under its new identity. The updated building, expanded exhibitions, and fresh focus aim to make it a key destination for exploring sound and listening. The city expects the changes to attract wider interest in Fürth’s cultural offerings.
