City Gardeners Transform Streets with Biodiverse Flower Beds
A small team of municipal gardeners is transforming public flower beds along a key route through the city centre. Their work stretches from the town hall on Bierstraße, across Krahnstraße to Große Straße, and continues toward Neumarkt and Johannisstraße. The project aims to boost biodiversity while brightening up the area for visitors.
Silke Nestler carefully planned the plant selection for each location in advance. She chose species that would provide essential food for insects while creating an attractive display. The team focused on biodiversity, ensuring the new greenery supports urban wildlife.
Three gardeners have been carrying out the work, replacing old plantings with vibrant, insect-friendly alternatives. Their efforts have already drawn praise from experts. A research associate at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences highlighted the project’s role in urban biodiversity and climate protection. The city’s flowering central reservations were singled out for their positive impact. The team takes pride in their work, finding recognition from both residents and specialists deeply rewarding. The new flower beds are designed to offer year-round visual appeal while serving as a crucial resource for pollinators.
The updated flower beds now line a route from Bierstraße to Johannisstraße, offering both beauty and ecological benefits. The project reflects the city’s commitment to sustainability, with long-term advantages for local insects and residents. The gardeners’ efforts have set a visible example of how urban spaces can support nature.
