Northeast Frontier Railway accelerates key projects to boost regional connectivity

A high-level review of Northeast Frontier Railway’s (NFR) key projects took place recently. Vivek Kumar Gupta, Member (Infrastructure) of the Railway Board, led the meeting to assess progress on major rail developments. Among the highlights was the completion of the Bairabi-Sairang line, which now connects Mizoram’s capital to the national rail network.

Gupta’s visit included a detailed review of several critical rail projects. Senior officials, including General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava and General Manager (Construction) Ashish Bansal, attended the discussions. The meeting covered the status of the Jiribam-Imphal, Sivok-Rangpo, and Murkongselek-Pasighat lines, all vital for regional connectivity.

On 2nd May 2026, Gupta will conduct a window trailing inspection from Kamakhya to Dimapur. This inspection aims to evaluate track conditions, safety protocols, and infrastructure readiness. Following this, he will travel to Dimapur to review the Dimapur-Kohima new line project and other ongoing works in Nagaland. The review also highlighted recent achievements, such as the operationalisation of Molvom and Mendipathar stations for freight services. These developments are expected to boost logistics and trade in the region.

The Bairabi-Sairang railway link marks a significant step in integrating Mizoram’s capital with India’s rail system. NFR’s continued focus on infrastructure projects aims to enhance transport and economic growth across the Northeast. Further inspections and reviews will ensure these developments meet operational and safety standards.
