Cremlingen: Charity Run to Fund an Assistance Dog for 11-Year-Old Mika

Community unites for charity run to fund Mika's life-changing assistance dog

The Einstein Kindergarten in Hordorf has organized a special initiative for one of its former pupils: this coming Saturday, they will host a charity run to raise funds for 11-year-old Mika. The boy lives with severe cerebral palsy and significant spasticity. An assistance dog would make his daily life far easier—but the cost is beyond his family's means.

Mika cannot sit, stand, or walk independently and requires round-the-clock support in his daily life. Speaking is also a major challenge for him. Yet, as the campaign website explains, animals have a profound effect on him. During therapy sessions with dogs, he experiences moments of deep calm and relaxation. His muscles relax, he appears more secure, and his tension eases. An assistance dog could help him in everyday tasks—retrieving dropped items, opening doors, easing anxiety, and providing comfort in difficult situations. Above all, it would give Mika a measure of independence and self-confidence, as well as a loyal companion by his side.

High Costs Stand in the Way

Training such a dog is expensive, making acquisition costs prohibitive. To support Mika's family and help him realize his dream of a four-legged helper, the charity run will take place this Saturday. The funds raised will go toward an assistance dog trained at a specialized center. Around 350 runners are expected to participate, each seeking personal sponsors who will donate per lap completed or a fixed amount.

Routes for All Ages and Abilities

The event is open to people of all ages, with courses designed for children, individuals with disabilities, and adults of varying fitness levels. Creative costumes are not just allowed—they're encouraged! Every participant will receive a certificate, and refreshments will be provided. As of this Tuesday, over 300 people have already registered.

How to Sign Up

Those who wish to support Mika's cause by joining the run can register on the campaign website until April 23. If spaces remain, last-minute registrations may also be possible on the day of the event. The run will take place on Saturday, April 25, at the sports field in Hordorf, with race numbers available for pickup from 9:00 AM.
