Yakutsk launches bold greening plan with tree inventory and stricter landscaping rules

YAKUTIA.INFO. Lawmakers in Yakutsk's City Duma are reviewing amendments to the city's urban improvement regulations on Wednesday, proposing uniform landscaping standards, according to the MAX channel YAKUTSK400.

Meeting documents specify that the amendments will mandate compliance with landscaping standards for all urban improvement projects. Earlier, Yakutsk Mayor Yevgeny Grigoryev announced these plans at a scientific-practical conference on urban greening, held on April 28.

During the Duma session, the mayor also briefed deputies on plans to establish a tree nursery with private investment. Additionally, a compost production facility is set to be launched at the Bagarakh enterprise in the village of Khatassy to support the city's greening efforts.

"Scientists recommend 20 plant species for central Yakutia, all well-adapted to the harsh climate: birch, willow, spruce, poplar, bird cherry, mountain ash, wild rose, elderberry, hawthorn, and others. A supplementary list includes another 17 tree and shrub varieties," the YAKUTSK400 report states.

Yakutsk also plans to conduct a full inventory of its green spaces. Advisor to the mayor, Yekaterina Pavlova, announced that work is expected to begin in May, though a comprehensive survey of all trees and shrubs across the city may take several years.
