Ukhta Mayor Marina Metelyova Inspects Post-Winter Cleanup Efforts

Ukhta Mayor Marina Metelyova has checked how the city is being cleared after winter, she reported on her MAKh channel.

According to her, sand has built up on the roads—and this is not just dirt, but a source of future problems. If the city waits until everything dries out, cleanup equipment could kick up dust storms across Ukhta.

"I understand that Ukhtaspetsavtodor [the local road service] currently prioritizes snow removal, clearing storm drains, and other urgent tasks," Metelyova noted. "But sweeping sand off the roads needs to start now, not in May, as was the practice before."

This winter, around 6,000 cubic meters of sand-salt mix were used on the roads—2,000 cubic meters less than last year. Sergei Butorin, director of Ukhtaspetsavtodor, has scheduled the cleanup to begin on Monday, starting with Lenin Prospect and Chibyuskaya Street.

"Clean streets mean not just orderly roads, but also care for the comfort of our residents," the mayor emphasized.
