Lapu-Lapu City hands out rice and hope to 109 jobless families

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan handed out rice to 109 unemployed residents on May 29, 2026. Each beneficiary received 5 kilos of rice during the event held at the Public Employment Service Office (PESO). The distribution was led by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), headed by Ma. Shiela Baylosis. PESO Manager Kim Francisco also oversaw the event, ensuring the process ran smoothly.

One of the recipients, Glenda Daño, thanked the city for the support. She explained that her family had struggled to afford rice for days before receiving the aid. After the distribution, beneficiaries attended an orientation on the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP). This initiative offers financial assistance to eligible individuals seeking stable income opportunities. Mayor King-Chan reassured the group that the city government would keep providing alternative livelihood programs. She emphasised ongoing efforts to support jobless residents in finding sustainable work.

The rice distribution provided immediate relief to 109 families in Lapu-Lapu City. Alongside the aid, the SLP orientation aimed to help beneficiaries access long-term financial support. The mayor’s office confirmed that further assistance programs will follow.
