Kazakhstan's Senate leads Astana cleanup in national green push
Senators and staff of the Senate Apparatus took part in a citywide cleanup as part of the nationwide environmental campaign Clean Kazakhstan, launched by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, our website reports.
This time, senators joined the effort at the site of the capital's Inclusive Sports Center.
Alongside lawmakers, Senate staff, and their families, members of the Senate's Expert Club, graduates of the School of Analytics, and concerned citizens contributed to the city's greening initiative. A total of 200 saplings—including linden, aspen, elm, and other tree species—were planted.
Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev recalled that, as the head of state emphasized at the Regional Environmental Summit Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future, modern ecology is the foundation of humanity's existence, extending far beyond climate issues alone.
"It encompasses a range of indicators, including clean air and water, healthy soil, and a safe food system.
At the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, Kazakhstan is implementing environmental programs aimed at protecting the natural world. One such initiative is Clean Kazakhstan, which has grown into a nationwide movement. Today, Kazakhstan is also advancing its environmental agenda on the international stage, as demonstrated by the recent Regional Environmental Summit in Astana, where substantive discussions were held on addressing ecological challenges at both regional and global levels. It is heartening to see Kazakhs actively supporting these vital initiatives. As the President has stressed, ecology is first and foremost a way of life and a responsible attitude toward our shared planet. That is why it is so important for all of us to promote events like today's cleanup in Astana," he said during a conversation with participants.
The Senate Speaker also highlighted the symbolic significance of holding the cleanup at the Inclusive Sports Center—a unique facility where people receive comprehensive support and a wide range of services, from training and rehabilitation to medical treatment and education.
