Emmendingen's Free Giveaway Day Promotes Sustainability and Community Bonds
"Swap Sustainably Instead of Throwing Away: Emmendingen Neighborhood Embraces the Spirit of Giving"
On Sunday, May 3, 2026, the Bürkle-Bleiche district of Emmendingen will host its annual Free Giveaway Day, where residents can pass on unwanted but well-preserved items—free of charge. Between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., locals are invited to set up makeshift stalls on their own properties, offering everything from household goods to clothes to anyone who might need them.
The event's central hub will be Café Plausch on Lessingstraße, where visitors can find additional information and booths, including one from Kollmarsreute's Free Store (Umsonstladen). The initiative is a collaborative effort by several local groups and associations dedicated to sustainability and community engagement.
From 2 to 4 p.m., the café will also host a creative upcycling workshop under the motto "Get Creative, Don't Waste." Participants can transform old fabric scraps into new, useful items—whether by joining in hands-on, sharing ideas, or simply exchanging tips with fellow crafting enthusiasts.
Beyond promoting eco-friendly habits, the event aims to strengthen neighborhood bonds. At its heart, the day is as much about fostering connections between people as it is about giving everyday objects a second life.
