Freiburg's Augustinerplatz playground reopens with vibrant upgrades and street art
Freiburg’s Augustinerplatz playground has reopened after a major upgrade. The project included new seating, refreshed pathways, and a striking mural by Italian artist Alice Pasquini. The city invested around €90,000 in the improvements. The renovation focused on making the playground more welcoming and functional. A large undulating bench and additional seating were installed, while pathways were refurbished for better accessibility. The work cost roughly €80,000, fully funded by the city.
The playground’s street art also received an update. Alice Pasquini, a renowned street artist with works in cities worldwide, painted a new mural on the wall. Her design was chosen by Freiburg’s advisory council for art in architecture and public spaces. The mural project, costing about €10,000, was organised in partnership with Kulturaggregat, a local cultural group. Pasquini’s involvement brought an international touch to the project. Known for her vibrant and expressive style, she collaborated closely with the city to create a piece that fits the playground’s character.
The upgraded playground now offers improved seating, smoother pathways, and fresh street art. The city’s investment of €90,000 has transformed the space for residents and visitors. The new mural and renovations are expected to enhance the area’s appeal for years to come.
