Usinsk's Year-Round Landmark: Multidrom Park Celebrates Nearly a Year of Renewal

Though designed for all-season enjoyment, summer remains the best time to visit Usinsk's revamped Multidrom recreation park, now approaching its first anniversary. This season, three grants from Lukoil are fueling further improvements to the park as part of its ongoing development.

Following the 25th Lukoil Social and Cultural Projects Competition, the park administration secured funding for three initiatives: "Ping-Pong City," "Northern Garden," and "Arctic Mini-Golf."

As park director Nadezhda Smirnova explains, each project serves a shared goal: to make Multidrom even more appealing to residents and visitors alike.

"Despite its unique character, the park doesn't quite fit the traditional idea of a peaceful family retreat—and many visitors have pointed this out. There's too little greenery. After all, what's a park without trees?" says Smirnova.

The "Northern Garden" project will introduce tree-lined perimeters across Multidrom, using saplings with closed root systems sourced from acclimatized nurseries. Planting will adhere to all agronomic standards to ensure their growth.

"The park will become cleaner, livelier, and more attuned to the nature around us," the project's authors note. Volunteer tree-planting events will also give everyone a chance to contribute to the park's green transformation.

The other two grants will expand the park's attractions. "Ping-Pong City" will add two all-weather table tennis tables, free to use with no reservations required. Meanwhile, "Arctic Mini-Golf"—designed with young children in mind—will feature mobile courses set up in fair weather, helping kids develop precision, coordination, and teamwork while parents cheer them on.

Multidrom emerged from the renovation of Usinsk's former city park, carried out under a cooperation agreement between the Republic of Komi and Lukoil. This spring, it became the region's sole nominee for the 3rd All-Russian Parks Award in the "Children's Park" category, competing alongside Moscow's VDNKh Urban Farm, Nizhny Novgorod's "Switzerland" Park, Kazan's Kamal Theater Playground, and St. Petersburg's Aviators Park. Though the Nizhny Novgorod project ultimately won, Multidrom's recognition as a finalist marks a significant achievement—and a source of inspiration for its continued growth.
