Stein's 2026 Festival Honours Gardeners Who Bring the Town to Life
The town of Stein celebrated its green-thumbed residents during the 2026 Town Festival weekend. The annual 'Blooming Stein' competition honoured private gardeners whose efforts brighten public spaces. Each participant received a daisy as a small token of thanks.
The event highlighted the work of locals who transform Stein with colourful flower beds and thoughtfully designed gardens. A photo exhibition displayed their creations, from neat borders to creative front-yard layouts.
Newly elected First Mayor Bertram Höfer praised the contributions, calling them vital to the town’s charm and quality of life. He emphasised how private gardens enhance Stein’s appearance and community spirit. Bettina Heckel, chair of the Horticultural and Landscape Conservation Association, spoke about sustainable gardening. She urged residents to adopt nature-friendly methods, such as planting for bees and supporting biodiversity. The association also provides advice to help more people start gardening. Winners of the 2025 competition were announced during the festival. The awards recognised those who went above and beyond in making Stein greener and more inviting.
The ceremony closed with a reminder of gardening’s role in local life. The association continues to offer support, hoping to inspire even more residents to pick up a trowel. Next year’s competition will again celebrate those who help Stein bloom.
