New church playground opens after €30,000 community-funded upgrade
Solingen – Cheerful children's laughter, pizza, and drinks marked the Sunday opening of the new playground at St. Reinoldi Rupelrath Evangelical Church. After the morning service, numerous congregants and families gathered on the lawn behind the Aufderhöhe community center to officially unveil the new meeting place for children.
Children Cut the Ribbon
A special moment for the youngest attendees: they were given the honor of cutting the red ribbon, symbolically opening their playground. No sooner was it declared open than the climbing frame, slide, and nest swing were eagerly claimed by excited children.
High Demand Among Young Visitors
The need for new play equipment had long been clear in the congregation. The old facilities were outdated and no longer met the needs of the many children who use them. Around 40 children regularly attend the "Gottesland" children's church service, while roughly 70 more take part in the monthly "KIWI" children's action afternoon.
Community Effort Pays Off
Over the course of a year, members and friends of the church raised approximately €30,000. These funds made it possible to purchase and install the new, professional-grade playground equipment.
Gratitude to Supporters and Volunteers
Dr. Arne Pidun, chair of the Rupelrath support association, praised the dedication of everyone involved. He called the project a "sustainable investment in the future" and expressed thanks to both donors and the many volunteers who contributed their time and effort—whether digging, landscaping, or assisting with other hands-on tasks.
A Place for Play and Connection
The new playground has created a vibrant gathering spot that will not only provide space for children to play but also strengthen community bonds in the years to come.
