Neu-Isenburg fights tree losses with climate-resilient reforestation efforts

Neu-Isenburg is facing a growing challenge as its trees suffer from years of drought and extreme heat. Since 2018, more trees have died than in previous decades, pushing the city to take action. In response, officials are now boosting replanting efforts and introducing climate-resilient species to protect the town’s green spaces. The city has seen a rise in tree deaths, with drought and rising temperatures taking their toll. To counter this, local authorities are optimising planting locations and selecting hardier tree varieties. While these climate-adapted species cost more, they are considered essential for the town’s long-term survival.

Residents have also stepped in to help, donating funds to plant new trees. In 2022 alone, 15 donors contributed enough to plant 31 trees. Those interested in sponsoring a tree can still do so through the DLB AöR website’s online donation portal. Donated trees are tracked on an interactive map, showing their location, species, and individual tree number.

For anyone wanting to sponsor a tree in an area not listed on the portal, Sylvio Jäckel is available to provide further details. With tree losses mounting and replanting costs rising, Neu-Isenburg is investing more in its green future. The shift to climate-resilient species and community support through donations aim to keep the city’s landscapes thriving. The interactive map and donation options ensure residents can stay involved in the effort.
