Magadan's Spring Festival Brings Folk Magic and Family Fun to Life

Magadan, April 27. Every year in late April, the regional capital upholds a heartwarming tradition: bidding farewell to winter and welcoming the long-awaited warmth, celebrating the rapid snowmelt, the first rays of sunshine, the cheerful drip of thawing icicles, and the return of sunny days. This year, residents of Magadan kept the custom alive with the folk festival "Greeting the Northern Spring," according to the city administration's press service.

Locals and visitors alike enjoyed a packed schedule of events across City Park, the Pioneer and Snezhny microdistricts, and the villages of Sokol and Upta. On April 25 and 26, merry jesters and beloved fairy-tale characters—Leshy, Baba Yaga, Lady Spring, and Mother Winter—greeted everyone who came to share in nature's renewal, while creative ensembles treated guests to themed songs and dances. Festive competitions and relay races were held for both children and adults at every venue.

Artists from the Snezhny Culture Center prepared a theatrical performance, "The Adventures of Alyosha Popovich and Yuliy the Horse," while in Sokol, local craftsmen showcased their wares at a masters' fair.

After the long winter, amusement rides reopened in City Park, and the upper terrace of the public space buzzed with festive market stalls.
