Magadan's Massive Cleanup Transforms Parks and Public Spaces by Summer
A citywide cleanliness drive has been transforming Magadan since late April. Residents and volunteers have worked together to clear winter debris from parks, playgrounds and public spaces. The campaign has already seen over two thousand people take part in restoring the regional capital’s green areas and residential zones. The effort began in late April, with volunteers focusing on public gardens, vacant lots and roadside areas. Children’s playgrounds, sports grounds and residential courtyards have also been cleared of litter and seasonal waste. By May 20, the campaign had restored 66 courtyards, 50 citywide public spaces and 65 sites near schools, hospitals and other social facilities.
Educational institutions, cultural groups and municipal workers have led the initiative, forming the largest share of participants. Meanwhile, Magadan’s Administrative and Technical Inspection has reached out to local businesses, issuing around 140 formal invitations to join the cleanup. The city has also hired teams for manual litter collection in four districts: Pioneer, Solnechny, Avtotek and Zvezda. Residents who wish to contribute can still sign up by contacting the mayor’s office. Volunteers are assigned specific areas to clean, ensuring organised and efficient progress across the city.
The campaign will run until September 20, giving Magadan months to further improve its public spaces. With thousands already involved and businesses encouraged to participate, the drive aims to maintain cleaner streets, parks and residential zones throughout the summer. The city administration continues to coordinate efforts and expand the initiative’s reach.
