KL Festival 2026 Unites Art, History and Community in May's Cultural Extravaganza
Kuala Lumpur is set to host a month-long cultural celebration from May 6 to May 31. The KL Festival 2026 will bring together over 700 hours of programming across 25 venues. Organisers have planned more than 80 events, from immersive walks to community clean-ups, with most activities free to attend.
The festival kicks off with a mix of art, history, and community engagement. One of the first events, Warung Terang, will light up downtown Kuala Lumpur with a laneway projection art installation. It runs from May 8 to May 10 and again from May 15 to May 17.
On May 9, two major activities will take place. *Jogeton*, a six-hour joget dance marathon, starts at 5pm at Dataran Merdeka. Meanwhile, *Planet KL: Kebun-Kebun Sungai Klang - gotong royong* invites volunteers to join a river clean-up at KRF03-Microforest. A second clean-up is scheduled for May 23. For those interested in local history, *Klang River Feels: The Everyday Moment* offers guided walks on May 10 and May 17. These sessions explore the Klang River’s past and present, starting at Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad. Another immersive experience, *I Can’t See Myself In This Landscape*, runs daily throughout the festival at Perdana Botanical Garden. This audio walk guides participants through the park’s landscapes. While most events are free, some require advance registration. The festival’s full programme spans dance, art, environmental action, and storytelling.
The KL Festival 2026 will transform the city into a hub of creativity and community. With guided walks, dance marathons, and clean-up efforts, the event offers something for everyone. Free entry to most activities ensures broad participation across Kuala Lumpur.
