Burien's Garden Tour Blooms with Community Spirit and Green Beauty
Burien’s annual Garden Tour took place on Saturday, May 30, offering residents and visitors a chance to explore some of the city’s most vibrant green spaces. The event showcased nine local gardens, blending private plots with community projects, all while raising money for future beautification work in downtown Burien. The tour kicked off at The Shark Garden, also known as the New Start Community Garden. Here, participants collected maps, badges, and browsed plant sales while enjoying live music. The event ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with attendees free to wander the gardens at their own pace.
The route included a mix of private and shared gardens scattered across Burien. Organised entirely by local volunteers, the self-guided tour encouraged exploration of the city’s diverse horticultural efforts. The day concluded at Huckleberry Gardens Nursery, where visitors could relax with a glass of bubbles. They also cast votes for their favourite garden and entered raffles, adding a festive touch to the event. All proceeds from ticket sales and activities will go towards funding future botanical projects in downtown Burien, helping to enhance the area’s natural charm.
The tour not only highlighted Burien’s green spaces but also brought the community together for a shared cause. Funds raised will directly support upcoming beautification initiatives, ensuring the city’s gardens continue to thrive in the years ahead.
