Arsenyev Prize Winners Celebrated as Far Eastern Literature Expands Online

The virtual bookshelf on LitRes (12+) dedicated to the V.K. Arsenyev Prize has been expanded with new works by Far Eastern authors. Readers can now explore a historical novel chronicling key events of the second half of the 20th century in Primorye, a schoolboy's adventures in the wondrous worlds of science, and stories that carry on the tradition of Russian horror literature. The collection will continue to grow, with all works available to read completely free of charge.

Among the new additions is Antonina Gileva's cinematic novella Fragments of a Frozen Summer (18+). Lev Sysoev contributes two books: Lilichka (12+), a novel about a woman who spent her entire life in Primorye, witnessing the region's most pivotal events from 1952 to the present day, and Timofey's Adventures in Wondrous Worlds (12+), a fantastical tale of a boy's journey through a magical realm of science, where he encounters legendary scholars of the past.

Valery Musienko's The Prospect on the Left Bank of the Kolyma (18+) weaves together stories of life in Magadan and its history. Alexey Nebykov's collection The Unstoppable Silence of Light (18+) draws on the roots of Russian horror literature, where meaning takes center stage, while fear and mysticism serve as lenses for exploring profound themes.

Last year, the Arsenyev Prize organizers, in partnership with the digital platform LitRes, launched a virtual shelf to showcase works by laureates and winners of the literary competition. Here, readers can discover titles from the shortlist. Now, some of the finest books about the Russian Far East are accessible to millions in digital format.

The seventh season's results were announced during a ceremonial gala (18+) on December 5 in Moscow at the Russian Cultural Foundation—a longstanding partner of the Prize. The event brought together representatives of federal and Far Eastern regional authorities, Prize partners, Russian cultural figures, writers, publishers, critics, and national and regional media outlets.
