Zirndorf's Clothing Swap Party Promotes Sustainable Fashion on April 17
Zirndorf is set to host a clothing swap party on Friday, April 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The event encourages sustainable fashion by giving gently used garments a second life. Organisers hope to reduce fast fashion waste through circular use of clothing and accessories. The initiative revives a popular format already seen in cities worldwide. In nearby Castrop-Rauxel, a similar event in the Merklinde district has run successfully for two years, promoting sustainable consumption.
Participants can bring up to five clean, undamaged clothing items in sizes 152 and above. Jewellery and accessories are also accepted, though underwear and swimwear are excluded. Drop-off begins at 5:30 PM, with attendees able to take home up to four different items in exchange.
The event is organised by the Zirndorf Adult Education Center, the city's Sustainability and Fair Trade Steering Group, and Bund Naturschutz Zirndorf. Light refreshments will be provided, and local food-sharing initiatives will showcase sustainable food practices alongside the swap.
Registration remains open until April 10 at the Begegnungszentrum, ensuring broad community involvement. The clothing swap aims to extend the lifespan of garments while cutting down on fast fashion consumption. By exchanging items instead of discarding them, participants contribute to a more sustainable approach to fashion. The event also strengthens community ties through shared environmental efforts.
