Youth Ascending, Reaching New Heights
Mountain adventures and tales of yore echo in the peaks. Live there, respect them, sometimes even fear them - for mountains possess their own distinct personalities, moods, and behaviors. To truly understand them, you must learn their rhythms, their quirks, their lights and shadows. That's why we ascend, to forge new stories, create experiences, and birth ideas. Mark your calendars for the Cuneo Mountain Festival, taking place from May 9th to 11th!
This year, the theme is "A Mountain of Youth," a focus on the future generation of mountain enthusiasts. As Patrizia Manassero, Mayor of Cuneo, puts it, "We can't imagine any strategy without those who are entering adulthood and will be the future of the mountains." The event will comprise a diverse array of thinkers, innovators, and trailblazers - from anthropologists to economists - passionate about preserving and developing the mountains for tomorrow.
We're living in an era filled with challenges - demographic, climatic, economic - and these young highlanders choose to confront them head-on with their passion and skills. From this enthusiasm, 60 proposals for building the mountain of tomorrow have emerged, transformed into workshops, presentations, laboratories, and documentaries.
Here's a taste of the festival's events: "Beyond Borders," exploring whether the Alps can become a unifying force between European nations amid rising nationalism; a reflection between Italian and French youth on a new European cohesion policy, titled "Speaking Two Languages Between Italy and France"; and discussions on innovations for a sustainable future, the role of alpine culture in territorial regeneration, and the importance of forests in mountain communities.
But the festival isn't just about intellectual discourse. There will be room for cinema, music, and art, as well as opportunities to admire the Alpine Arc from a hot air balloon (weather permitting). As in previous years, there will be the Alpine Village in Via Roma and meetings with various experts in their fields.
Organized by the Municipality of Cuneo and supported by the Chamber of Commerce and the Crc Foundation, the Cuneo Montagna Festival results from synergies and collaborations across the region. Notable organizations involved include the Politecnico di Torino, the University of the Aosta Valley, and experts from the Parco Alpi Marittime, the Parco Fluviale Gesso and Stura, the Fai, the Cai, the Association of Alpine Cities of the Year, and Cipra International.
While specific information about the festival's themes and events beyond those mentioned is scarce, we can expect discussions on sustainability, environmental awareness, cultural exchange, and empowering young people to contribute to mountain-related issues.
