WoW's Midnight Expansion Unleashes Game-Changing Depths Buffs for Players
The latest World of Warcraft expansion, Midnight, introduces new mechanics in the Depths that reward players with powerful temporary buffs. Small treasures scattered throughout each zone now offer meaningful boosts, while Valeera's growing strength adds another layer of strategy.
These changes allow players to push beyond their usual item level limits—sometimes by 20 tiers or more—when tackling tougher content. Every Depth in Midnight contains roughly ten small treasures, each marked by cloth pouches with blue trim. Inside, players find Voidlight Shale, resources, experience for Valeera, and golden orbs that grant short-term enhancements. These orbs can boost health by up to 20%, increase Mastery by 15%, or raise Haste and primary stats by 10% each.
Valeera's power also scales with item level, gaining percentage-based increases in damage, healing, or health as players progress. Her campfire provides an extra 5% primary stat buff for ten minutes, stacking with other bonuses.
At the end of a Depth, final reward chests may drop epic consumables. These grant significant buffs that remain active for the next Depth if used within 24 hours. The system encourages players to experiment with rarely used talents, such as Priests employing Mind Control. Environmental hazards in the Depths further add to the challenge, damaging both players and enemies—allowing clever use of positioning for an advantage. The combined effects of small treasures, Valeera's scaling strength, and consumable rewards let players tackle content well above their usual item level. Stacking major and minor buffs creates opportunities for strategic play, while the Depths' unique mechanics keep encounters dynamic.
No official changes to Mega-Buffs from The War Within have been confirmed, leaving their role in Midnight unchanged for now.
