Win Old VBZ Tram Stop Signs Now

Zurich’s public transport operator, VBZ, is offering residents a chance to own a piece of the city’s history. Decommissioned tram stop signs from routes 2, 4, 5, 8, and 11 are being given away—but only to those with the best stories or memories linked to these iconic lines.

The competition was launched by the Zürich geht foundation, which aims to preserve local heritage. Participants must share their personal connections to the tram routes, whether nostalgic, humorous, or heartfelt. Entries are accepted through an online form until December 22, 2025.

The signs come from stops that have either been updated or removed. VBZ hopes the initiative will celebrate the city’s transport history while giving residents a tangible memento. Winners will be selected based on the creativity and emotional resonance of their submissions. No purchase is required, and the competition is open to anyone with a Zurich connection. The foundation has encouraged people of all ages to take part, ensuring a wide range of perspectives are represented.

The winning entries will receive the original signs as keepsakes. VBZ and Zürich geht plan to showcase some of the submitted stories publicly. This project turns old infrastructure into personal treasures while keeping the city’s transport legacy alive.
