The German Press Agency reports that Wenders, who previously was a night owl, has now become more of an early bird.
The change in Wenders' sleep schedule was made voluntarily, and he shared this information with the press. Each morning, he wakes up to a wide view of the landscape outside his Berlin home, which changes daily with each season. Wenders enjoys imagining the day as it begins while looking out the window.
This recent development in Wenders' life is not attributed to any specific reason other than his personal preference. He stated that he wouldn't want to miss his morning view.
Meanwhile, a large exhibition about Wenders, titled "The Art of Seeing," is being held at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn. The exhibition, which celebrates Wenders' 80th birthday on August 14, showcases his diverse creative output beyond cinema. It presents not only his influential films but also his photographs, drawings, collages, and electronic paintings—digitally retouched video images from his film work.
"The Art of Seeing" is a comprehensive tribute to Wenders, tracing his life as an artist and filmmaker. The exhibition features a curated selection of Wenders' intimate polaroids, storyboards, film stills, and sketches that bridge still and moving images. An immersive cinematographic installation designed by Wenders himself allows visitors to deeply engage with his cinematic world in a multi-dimensional way.
Behind-the-scenes material, such as props, production documents, and inspiration drawn from visual arts and music, provide insight into Wenders' creative process. An audio guide narrated by Wenders himself offers personal context and background stories about the exhibits and his work, available in German and English.
"The Art of Seeing" emphasizes Wenders' role as a "traveller and only then as a director or photographer," showcasing the breadth of his artistic oeuvre and his passion for visual narratives. The exhibition is a collaboration between the Bundeskunsthalle, the Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum in Frankfurt, the Wim Wenders Stiftung, and other partners, with plans for a reimagined version to travel to Frankfurt in 2026.
