The blazing success of the Kosmos Festival this year has left spectators scratching their heads, wondering if the event will return to Chemnitz in 2026.

Chemnitz - Got your groove thumping for another Kosmos Festival? Let's add some fuel to the fire and find out! Over the weekend, the city buzzed with more than 100,000 festival-goers, but the dust has yet to settle on the event's future.

Festival spokesperson Ernesto Uhlmann (29) shares the city's enthusiasm: "The public response has been phenomenal - everyone wants the festival to continue! But, it all depends on whether the city wants us back."

While the city council has voiced its support for the "rebranding" of Kosmos Chemnitz1, Mayor Sven Schulze (53, SPD) links the festival's future to financing: "We'd love to keep the show going while considering the city's financial situation."

When we inquired, the town hall revealed ongoing negotiations surrounding "organizational and financial details" for the upcoming years1. They reminded us that the festival has shown its importance to Chemnitz and expressed their goal of having the Kosmos Festival solidly etched in Chemnitz's event calendar going forward.

The search for a new organizer for 2026 is still on.

Will a continuation under the Cultural Capital gGmbH umbrella be an option for 2026?

"The Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH's mission is to execute the event for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025," says KuHa spokesperson Mareike Holfeld (51). She adds that the long-term impact of the European Capital of Culture year is currently being evaluated in a "legacy process", which includes discussions about the future of the Kosmos Festival1.

Ready for another round of revelry? The city's top event company has passed on the offer for 2026.

Meanwhile, C3, the largest event company in the city, is keeping its distance: "Kosmos is off the agenda for us," says C3 spokesperson Yvonne Buchheim.
