Why Autumn Is the Perfect Time to Plant Fruit Trees and Berries
Autumn is a crucial season for gardeners, offering ideal conditions for various plantings. While late autumn sowing of stone fruits is possible three weeks before frost, the season is particularly suited for other fruit trees and berry shrubs, as well as certain vegetables.
Autumn is an opportune time to prepare suburban plots for the next season. Russian agricultural guidelines suggest planting plum roses (Cistus) and cherry trees in early spring (March-April) or autumn (September-October), with spring being preferred for most regions to allow establishment before winter. However, stone fruits like plum and cherry are best planted in spring.
For apple and pear trees, as well as raspberry and currant bushes, autumn is the recommended planting time. After the leaves have fallen, it's an ideal period for these plants to establish strong root systems before winter. Additionally, sowing carrots, parsley, and dill, and planting garlic and onions in autumn can be beneficial.
Autumn offers a window of opportunity for gardeners to prepare their plots for the next season. While late autumn sowing of stone fruits is possible, other fruit trees, berry shrubs, and specific vegetables can be planted and sown during this period to ensure a productive growing season ahead.
