Virginia Beach Named 2nd Best U.S. City for Retirement in 2025

Virginia Beach, Virginia, has been named the second best city for retirement in the U.S., according to WalletHub's 2025 rankings. The city's comfortable climate and affordable housing, with an average value of $376,000, contribute to its high ranking.

The rankings now place greater emphasis on 'happiness' factors, such as local entertainment options. Virginia Beach excels in this area, offering a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful waterfront homes, and award-winning restaurants. Its friendly residents further enhance the city's appeal.

Meanwhile, Naples, Florida, tops the list due to its relaxed lifestyle and numerous activities like pickleball, golf, and fishing. However, it ranks 95th in affordability, with an average house value exceeding $1 million. Florida's retirement-friendly tax policies, including zero state taxes on income, capital gains, and dividends, also attract retirees.

The 2025 WalletHub rankings highlight Virginia Beach's strengths for retirement, with its comfortable climate, affordable housing, and vibrant local scene. While Naples offers a high-quality lifestyle, its housing costs may be a barrier for some. Both cities, however, benefit from Florida's tax policies.
