Vienna Honors Jane Goodall’s Legacy in Emotional Memorial Tribute
Renowned primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall has been remembered in a touching memorial service in Vienna. The event, held at Meinl’s Roasting Hall, celebrated her life and legacy, with around 400 people in attendance.
The service, organized by the Jane Goodall Institute Austria, honoured the work of the late scientist, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 87. Goodall, who celebrated her 85th birthday in 2019, was known for her groundbreaking research on chimpanzees, demonstrating their complex social behaviours and emotions.
Biologist Ludwig Huber, in his tribute, compared Goodall's impact on science to that of Charles Darwin. The memorial also featured performances of songs that held deep meaning for Goodall, as planned by the scientist herself. Actress and singer Lilian Klebow captivated the audience with her renditions.
The Jane Goodall Institute Austria continues to carry on Goodall's work, focusing on animal welfare, conservation, and human support. The memorial service served as a testament to her enduring impact, with guests exchanging messages on 'cards of hope' in her memory. Goodall, who served as a UN Messenger of Peace and received the Austrian Cross of Honor for Art and Science, leaves behind a legacy that continues to inspire and influence the world.
