Veteran Gets Free Roof as Local Company Honors Military Service
A Marine Corps veteran in Beverly has received a new roof at no cost, thanks to a local company’s ongoing support for military personnel. Coastal Windows & Exteriors completed its fifth Roof for Heroes donation, installing a GAF roofing system for Lenny Szrlong. The gift comes as rising energy costs and a harsh winter forecast add pressure on homeowners in the region.
The Roof for Heroes program began in 2020 to assist veterans struggling with home maintenance expenses. Coastal Windows & Exteriors covers the full cost of a GAF roofing system, ensuring veterans like Szrlong have safe and energy-efficient housing. Poor roofing can cause structural damage, mould-related health risks, and energy losses of up to 25%—issues the new installation aims to prevent.
Szrlong expressed his thanks, highlighting the company’s genuine care for local veterans. Stephanie Vanderbilt, owner of Coastal Windows & Exteriors, described the program as a way to repay those who served, ensuring they have shelter and security. The company also offers military personnel a $750 discount and financing plans of up to 20 years, subject to credit approval.
Local leaders, including Stephen Adelman and State Senator Kelly Dooner, praised the initiative for its tangible impact on veterans’ lives. Coastal Windows & Exteriors has earned recognition for its community work, receiving the Minuteman Service Award in 2022.
The donation arrives ahead of a difficult winter, easing financial strain for Szrlong and improving his home’s energy efficiency. Coastal Windows & Exteriors continues to expand its support for veterans, combining free roof replacements with discounted services. The program remains a key part of the company’s commitment to military families in the area.
