Vegesack’s Winter Fun Festival Draws Crowds and Plans Major Expansion
The Vegesack Winter Fun festival has concluded its inaugural successful run in North Bremen. Under the leadership of Oliver Trey, the event attracted more visitors to the city centre and introduced new attractions. Plans are already underway to grow the festival by up to 40 percent next year.
The festival began with a focus on creating a welcoming winter atmosphere. Ice stock events became a major draw, pulling crowds into Vegesack’s pedestrian zone. Foot traffic in the area rose by 40 percent compared to the previous year.
A stall near the Kastanie chestnut tree proved especially popular with regular visitors. Organisers also added a new stand serving potato pancakes and mushrooms after receiving multiple requests. To test demand, they extended opening hours on Sundays—but attendance dropped on the fourth Sunday of Advent.
Looking ahead, the festival will introduce a news event hut at Ambassador-Duckwitz-Platz. Two operators have already been selected to run it, though no further details about them have been released. The organisers aim to expand the festival’s size by 30 to 40 percent, adding more stalls and themed areas.
The first Vegesack Winter Fun festival boosted local footfall and set the stage for future growth. Next year’s edition will feature more attractions, including a dedicated event hut. Organisers plan to refine the schedule based on this year’s visitor patterns.
